on the move

It's been a while, yes, yes. I am at what you call a breaking point in my work load. This is where sleep becomes a luxury, getting sick is NOT an option, and being married with two kids is like "what the heck was I thinking?" However, let me stop a moment and give you a short update on the my travels. Over the July 4th holiday I was able to shoot a wedding in historic Fredericksburg, Virginia for the lovely Tim and Amber. (We featured their get to know you shoot a few pages back in the blog.) I've just gotten over a severe head cold after visiting my sister for her high school graduation (yeah, thanks sis!) and, most recently, a case of strep throat. (apparently sleep isn't a luxury after all....) Anyway. we're working feverishly here at the office and will be posting some of our latest and greatest soon. As always, feel free to drop us a line and thanks for visiting.

new site construction begins!

It's finally in the works! I'm happy to say the new wedding and portrait site is in development and should be released mid july. New features include two sites; one dedicated to everything wedding and the other for our creative portraits. Larger previews, categories, and proofing/shopping cart are all part of providing better service to our wonderfully beautiful clients. There's some other surprises as well, but I won't give it all away just yet. You'll have to come and check it out for yourselves. Stay creative. Be well and remember to inspire. Today is a beautiful day to live!

new interiors

Until the day I can afford my own medium format system (30,000+ for any of you looking at birthday gifts for me this year; belated or otherwise) I am finding some consolation in shooting my interiors shots using HDR techniques. The subtle control, fine detail and crisp appearance of these images remind of the detail I could obtain with a medium format system. Not that I'm saying it's equal mind you, but coming from a pure 35mm perspective as I do, I have to admit I'm inching my way closer to where I want to be. All three imgages were shot with my Nikon D300 and comprise of at least 5 images. Hmmmm, perhaps in the future I'll shoot the same scene with a flash to show the true and remarkable difference of shooting HDR.

p.s. I think you'll notice the almost painterly or moody-illustration like appearance of each image below. My personal excitement of shooting HDR, is I can finally give the viewer the essence of how a room looked and felt at the time of day I shot it. When you view these images, notice the blue tones of natural window light mixing with the yellow/red tones of lamp light. Shadows appear more defined and the whole area has a mood which helps evoke an emotion one would receive when enter the room in person.

jeffords sneak peek

We shot Dan and Emily's wedding at the Kilgore Lewis Mansion in dowtown Greenville. I loved the many textures and "distressed" areas the mansion provided and it quickly became my new favorite place to shoot a wedding. Don't misunderstand, I think their are many beautiful places to shoot a wedding and I've shot in many of them, but sometimes certain places stand out, from a photography standpoint, and this was one of those places. Not to mention, both Emily and Dan are wonderfully creative people and have been fun to work with. Here's a peek of their beautiful day. Thank you guys for the opportunity to shoot your wedding!
