Chasing Summer, (Outer Banks, NC)

I am a spirit floating above him, just out of sight. I'm allowed only to watch, for if I do anything else, he might stop and I'll miss seeing his mind work in the waning sunset. He plays as if this moment is the best part of the day. He shrieks with delight as the surf touches his toes, and runs fearlessly towards the receding waves. He builds castles only to break them down, runs away only to be chased, and smiles because he only knows how to live in the present moment. He is a fiery little spirit. He is my son. I love you...
