new interiors

Until the day I can afford my own medium format system (30,000+ for any of you looking at birthday gifts for me this year; belated or otherwise) I am finding some consolation in shooting my interiors shots using HDR techniques. The subtle control, fine detail and crisp appearance of these images remind of the detail I could obtain with a medium format system. Not that I'm saying it's equal mind you, but coming from a pure 35mm perspective as I do, I have to admit I'm inching my way closer to where I want to be. All three imgages were shot with my Nikon D300 and comprise of at least 5 images. Hmmmm, perhaps in the future I'll shoot the same scene with a flash to show the true and remarkable difference of shooting HDR.

p.s. I think you'll notice the almost painterly or moody-illustration like appearance of each image below. My personal excitement of shooting HDR, is I can finally give the viewer the essence of how a room looked and felt at the time of day I shot it. When you view these images, notice the blue tones of natural window light mixing with the yellow/red tones of lamp light. Shadows appear more defined and the whole area has a mood which helps evoke an emotion one would receive when enter the room in person.

I like these a lot- the feel to me is more artistic than a "realistic" shot... very nice

I agree. And to me, the rooms looked like that when I shot them. I'm just finally able to capture the subtle light and shadow play. truly awesome!

Awesome stuff TJ. The tub one almost looks like you could walk right in and start taking a nice soak.
